Gallery updates, Africa, and Portugal

Well, I finally got my gallery updates finished. Originally I was using an open source photo blog called Plogger, which is easy to use and style. However, I was finding that I wanted to be able to put more than just images in my galleries, and Plogger is meant to be simple and lightweight.

Site updates…

Howdy. Haven’t posted anything in a while… Been working on some site updates. The visual changes are just a little polishing. Also working on revamping my gallery (which, by the way, hasn’t had the styling updated yet). I have decided to make heavy use of the WP-Simpleviewer plugin for Wordpress instead of using Plogger. The gallery updates will be posted within a couple of days, so the Plogger gallery will remain up for now.

When I was updating the iDC Photography website, I decided to change the gallery portions of the site (here is the places gallery). A while ago I had come across SimpleViewer, which is a combination of Javascript, Flash/Actionscript, and XML - It puts a gallery of Jpegs in a Flash interface. What this allows you to do is manage the images in the Flash viewer via the XML file - no republishing the Flash gallery every time you want to add or remove an image. It is already wildly popular, and is integrated into Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom in the web gallery section. Also, an Automate script has been written for Photoshop so you can use SimpleViewer instead of the Web Photo Gallery.

Well, I finished integrating Drupal into iDC Photography.com.

The entire project started off with me just offering to set up a real blog to integrate with the site. What was being used was a never-ending html page with Named Anchor links to let readers jump down the page to previous posts. I said it sucked. Bruce and Maura listened…
